I have planted a beans plant(popularly known as Sem in north India). It' a creepers variety. It is planted in my lawn and now it has grown quite big. With the help of a rope, it has come on the first floor of my house, lot of branches, newer branches, leaves, quite healthy.
Alas ! It's not flowering. Therefore, no veggies !! I am at a loss to understand as to what should I do? In north it's a perfect season for beans(sem) !!!!
Can someone help me?
Creeper variety of beans take a little longer to flower than the bush variety and also produces more. How long its been since you sowed the seed?
If there is excess nitrogen also, the plants might not flower. Did you add any fertilizer high in nitrogen? Beans don't need so much nitrogen at all since they fix atmospheric nitrogen.
Also how much sunlight it gets? Is it very shady?
Thanks for your reply. I have not applied any nitrogen.
However, as supplement I have given bonemeal, Neem Khali and DAP very occasionally.
The plant is now more than three months'' old and very healthy. It''s giving very healthy and numerous shoots.
My house is south facing. It gets sunlight since morning and atleast six to seven hours of sunlight.
Would you suggest any application of fertilizer for blossoming?
Thanks for your nice support. I like your blog and in fact I have got emboldened to devote more time for gardening. Will be a frequent visitor to the blog.
One suggestion, you should keep in mind while writing/recommending for the weather conditions of different locations also. Like north is experiencing cold weather now whereas Bangalore, round the year almost pleasant weather is experienced.
DAP is a nitrogen source (in ammoniacal form). Give it another month and see. You can apply superphosphate and potash.
I am glad that you like this blog.
Thanks for the suggestion. You are making a good point. I will definitely remember this when I make my next post. Also I am working on a sowing calendar for all parts of India. Initially this blog had more visitors from south where the climate is not in extremes. Of late, the visitor base increased. Not trying to find an excuse. I will work on that.
