Hi Newgardener,

No offence but your question is like calling a doctor over phone and telling him that you are sick and you need a medicne.

Some details of the pests you are encountering would help.

Thanks,

Srikanth

What you are describing reagarding the white and black flies could be aphids. Why don't you post pictures on picassa and link them here?

That post from stevenyan seems to be more like spam.

Please do a search for aphids on this forum and you should find the solutions. You can try spraying with neem oil or dish water soap. There are chemical options too.

newgardener,

Here is how I do it -

1 ltr of water + 4 drops of any dish washing liquid preferably low on detergent - Mix well

Add 10ml of Neem Oil to the above and mix well. Do not add neem oil to water directly.

You will see a whitish liquid now, spray well on both sides of leaves, particularly under side. Make the mix just before you are ready to spray. Incase if you make the mix and do not use it with-in the span of 6 hours. discard the unused mix and create a fresh.

The plant should not get sunlight for atleast 3 to 4 hours after spraying. I get sunlight all day on my terrace, so I prefer to spary after 6 PM to avoid burns.

On the Neem oil, I use Natural Plus Neem oil and is available in most super markets including Spar. Use 10ml/ltr when infected or use 5ml/ltr for preventive care once in 2 to 3 weeks.

You could also throw wood ash on the leaves, this will help fix the problem as well. This is also the native way of getting rid of aphids in villages farms.

I have seen this on youtube but never tried - Crush few pods of garlic+chillies in a mixer, add tumeric, water and few drops of soap solution to it. Mix well and drain to get clear solution. Spray on the plants as mentioned above.

Hope this helps! Cheers, STS
