Hi

I need the worms to make vermicompost at home. Does anybody know where to get them in Bangalore?

Regards

Sri.

Have same requirement, but in Chennai.

You may try the listings in the link below and filter the ones in Bangalore.

http://www.compost-india.com/index.html

My experience so far, most of the commenrical composters do not supply earthworms in small quantities(not worth the effort) even if I am willing to pay for it including shipping.

I will be happy if some of the home vermicomposters can give a few worms.

Hi,

In Bangalore, you can get earthworms from either the GKVK campus in Hebbal or the Horticulture department on Bannerghatta road. Costs Rs 300/- per kg.

Cheaper alternative is to use vermicompost as it will contain some earthworm eggs.

Thanks

kvs

camaroon: did you try the following?

Director, Shri AMM Murugappa Chettiar Research Centre, Taramani
Chennai 600 113, Tamilnadu, India.
Phone: 044-22430937
Fax 044-22434268
E.Mail http://www.amm-mcrc.org

I was browsing and found this. Let me know. Also cleanindia.org lists these as the worms used in India for vermicomposting

Three species of earthworms are generally used in India for vermicomposting:
Eudrilus eugeniae ( African Night Crawler)
Eisenia foetida ( Tiger Worm)
Perionyx excavatus (India Blues)

Thanks Jeev. I called them and both times was not able to reach the proper person. Based on the intitial response looks like that they would be able to help..

I also contacted http://www.erfindia.org/ and they gave a contact who was willing to help. This contact was already listed in on the comments section in GG's blog. He informed me the worms will not be available for two weeks.

Today I went to a biotech compary in Porur who gave some earthworms(on request) after I bought some vermicompost, Pahchagalvya and a neem based pesticide. Very excited to see how these would turn up.
