Hi Amit,

You can grow them in 8" deep containers, with the same kind of circumference. But keep the containers where you get loads of sunlight. I have them in 10 pots in my terrace and they flower throughout the year. I used red soil to plant the bulbs and yes they multiply like crazy. You need to remove the young ones now and then to get a healthy flowering. I use cow dung and goat manure as fertilizer and they help. Just make sure you plant one bulb per container and make sure they get plenty of sunlight. My first batch were from 3 bulbs I got for rs 10 from a roadside vendor. It took some time for them to get rooted and after a year I planted the young ones in 8" pots that I got from the local nursery. They took some time to grow out, like 4 months, but then on they started flowering like crazy. If you need the bulbs, let me know will courier them over.

Cheers

Hi planter,

Thanks for the info. I would love to grow them as well. Would you know what kind of weather they require to thrive? NCR has very humid, but slightly cooler weather now a days, with the rains. Would it survive in here?

Also we don't get red soil here, its the regular yellow soil with sand mixed, but I have cow dung and coco peat.

Any specific fertilizer requirements do you think?

Hi Snorkel4u,

I don't use any specific fertilizers, as I had mentioned it is just cow dung and goat manure whenever i get them. But one thing I noticed is, they flower really well when they get good sunlight and rain at the same time. At one time, in Chennai, we had rains every evening for some time with harsh sun during the day, at that time i was gettling like 100 or more flowers a day. As long as you follow a good fertilizer regime, any soil should be good to go. Just keep in mind that they take some time to grow out, only then they start flowering. After that it will start sending one flower shoot after another.

Cheers

Rajanigandha also known as Sugandha raja. planted in a small pot, has started to flower. It took 2 1/2 months to flower. The smell is very sweet & very very addictive!!
