Hi Uzma,

If you see caterpillars, the easiest and quickest way to get rid of them is to hand pick them and throw/destroy them. If the infestation is higher then you can resort to pesticides.

Hello GG, even after throwing them away, they were coming back! So I visted the local pesticide shop & told the guy about the problem & he gave this pesticide called Dichlorvos & asked us to mix it with water & spray & it really worked. Thank you!

As long as its ornamentals its fine to use chemical pesticides. Also handle it with care. Good to hear that it worked.

I am much in love with this site. Gr8 work.

I am newbie to the Rose Gardening. I have planted about 12 hybrid tea roses. The plants I bought in Jan 2011 were healthy & planted them in soil. Now I see there is blackening of new foliage of these roses. Also the new leaves are becoming curly. Rose buds are also deformed, with outer petals becomes black. I do organic gardening. What is the cause & identification of the disease? I do not see any black spot although. What is the remedy for the same. I need help.

The link for Rose disease in my garden,

Also I am planning to have small greenhouse developed in-house, looking forward for help how to build the same.

Thanks in advance.

Just curious. You have mentioned copper spay is the reason for those white spots. What is the concentration of the fungicide/pesticide you used. The reason I am asking is, the spots you see on the plants could be pesticide burns.

rose experts Raman and terraceroses(kvs) might be able to tell you more.

I have used 1 teaspoon copper sulphate + 2 teaspoon of hydrated lime in 1 liter of water. The spots are due to accumulation of this solution.  I think this solution is not correctly spread on the leaves. Now the spots are lighter & I can see clear leaves. (so, I don''t think it is due to burn). But the problem is there.

I will take their expert opinion as per your suggestion. Thx

Camaroon,

The pics you posted looks like insect damage. Remove all the infected leaves and it also shows nutrient deficiency. Mostly Iron and Magnesium. If you use a complete fertilizer that has micronutrients, it should bloom like crazy. If you practice organic methods, use fresh good red soil to compensate for Iron.

Camaroon, GG is right. I have just received mail from one of the Garden fertilizer company, he says,

In Nursery they do apply DAP & Microneutrient in soil. So, when you purchase the same from Nursery they are healthy than in due course one faces such problem.
For your Roses it Requires Calcium , Magnesium & sulphur + Micro nutrient to prevent any deficiency.
Regarding Curling of Leaves that is deficiency of Micro nutrient .

For GG,

You have mentioned complete fertilizer, can you suggest us the name?

As micro-nutrients are readily available in market, how we can source Calcium , Magnesium & sulphur?

Smile

Yogesh

Dear KVS,

My problem is similar to the one mentioned above.
The buds in my rose plants turn black. When they bloom, the petals are deformed. The leaves below the buds hardly exist. Those that appear are curled or deformed. Please suggest the correct pesticide and the right way to apply it to take care of these problems. Also help me with care that I should take on a regular basis. Thank you.
