Hi Priya,

I am in Delhi and also trying my hand in balcony gardening with a set of pots. Have successfully grown bottle guard, bitter guard, radish, spinach, onion and some variety of flowers in my balcony garden.

I believe in organic gardening and for this make my own compost from the kitchen waste in small containers.

Though its a small setup but with my own experience coupled with the knowledge available on GGs blog I have learned that most of the things can be grown in containers. you can start with easy stuff such as reddish, tomato, coriander, spinach etc and gradually move to other varieties.

you can check my garden pics on my blog.

Would love to be touch with you to exchange ideas.

Regards..

Viny

welcome.. I am myself posting after a long time.

You need containers, potting medium, seeds , time and patience. Then you need to decide whether you are planning to do things the full chemical way (hydrophonics), hybrid(soil + chemical fertilizers) or organic (no chemicals).  Your potting medium will be based on this.  Before you start gardening check if your terrace needs waterproofing. I can suggest  DIY waterproofing method based on my own experience, but its a lot of hard work. Else get a consultant to do the work for you.

Gardening components can be got from

Containers -  MAC farm – Kotturpuram

Seeds – T.nagar seed shops, TNAU, Anna nagar, local nurseries, GG's new website

Soil – ECR road nurseries,  MAC farm

Drip irrigation (if required DIY way) – Broadway

gardening tools – GG's new website, MAC farm

Farm Manjari is same as MAC farm. MAC stands for Industrialist M.A Chidambaram, founder of SPIC. The cricket stadium is named after him.

Hi Priya,

In Delhi seeds are available easily in gardening stores otherwise also you can order them online. Still I would suggest you should bring some to kick off your garden. Also some of the varieties you may not get here in India very easily. . I would suggest bringing some gardening tools and gloves. Very useful for routine gardening activities.

Regards..
