Hi Sri,

thanks

1) These are HDPE PLANT BAGS made to order, light weight and easy to move around will last upto 5 years.

2) Except for the cluster beans in grow bags all the other plants are grown using red soil, coco peat, vermicomposte , neem cake and panchagavya. So far i have used only neem oil with kadhi soap and water as pesticide.

It was very nice looking at your garden Suresh. You seems to be taking a lot of care of all the plants that you have on your terrace.

One quick question on Drumstick plant - That could go on to become a big tree, are you going to chop it regularly to keep it under certain height?

Hi raj,

I got the seeds of this plant after seeing them grow in kumbakonam , these plants are trimmed at 5 or 6 ft ,they start yielding in 3 months (i have posted one with flowers ) . To be on the safer side before planting i spoke to center head of TNAU in chennai and they recommend this plant for roof gardens, frequent trimming also helps to produce new branches and better yield.

@sri,

These bags are available at arjun energy corporation @ salem. web site http://www.arjunenergy.com

i paid Rs 30/bag. sizes made to order , contact person Mr.Arjun 919442212345.

Hi

You have a very beautiful garden. One quick question........what steps have you taken to combat the current chennai rains, tonight is especially pouring. Wont the grow bags(green&orange ones) become soggy and topple down?

What are the sizes of the bags, if you could post the size specifications...that will be very helpful.

Thank you

you are an inspiration to everyone who love gardening

These green  bags are available at arjun energy corporation @ salem. web site http://www.arjunenergy.com

i paid Rs 30/bag. sizes made to order , contact person Mr.Arjun 919442212345.

i got these bags in two different sizes 2ft height x 1.5ft dia @ Rs30/bag

and 3ft height x 3 ft dia @ Rs 35/bag.

@srikanth the grow bags with coocpeat is from an exporter in chennai when i approached him initially he said that they dont do retail but since i visited his office 3 or 4 times he decided to part with the samples of various cocopeat products, i managed to get 6 grow bags infused with nutrition, 6 plain grow bags and a couple of 5 kg blocks and he said pay whatever you feel like Laugh. i think i paid 5 or 6 hundred Rs.

@greenthumb i am using these bags for the past 3 months and it has withstood all the rain during these period,

the material used seems to be good .

pls feel free to pay a visit to my house so that you will get a better idea.

regards

suresh

Great stuff, excellent plants. Thanks for the updates.

I have recently setup terrace garden. Have some questions,

1. Did you get the HPDE bags shipped or you got it in Salem? I wish I had know about this a month ago. Would have saved me a fortune

2. I recommend placing plastic trays below the bags/containers. This will help prevent seepage into our waterproofing. Yours looks new, but better to make this small precaution.

3. Does Cluster bears refer to Kothavangai? Have you tried regular beans? Does that come in Chennai weather?

4. What other plants do you think are suited for chennai weather this rainy season?

5. I see that you have shade-net. Is it useful?. How much does the setup cost (including the support structures)? Where is it available in chennai?

6. Are the yellow strips in your photos phenome traps?. Where to get them in chennai?

7. Any advise / recommendations for new terrace gardeners?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Camaroon,

The yellow strips are sticky traps used to attract white flies etc. Pheromone traps are different. You can get them both from PCI (Pest control India) or you can call http://pheromonechemicals.in/.

@sureshrama, thanks for the info. I wish they sell the growbags in India too. They seem to be of much higher quality than the ones I got from Thiraviyam cocopeat.
