My cow peas were growing like crazy and bearing plenty of flowers.I noticed that all the buds fell off and there were ants(biting small ones and the non biting bigger ones, the latter being more in number)biting the stalks of the buds and nipping them off.I tried neem oil, tobacco concoction, baby powder and turmeric powder, but nothing helped so far.I have an expecting member in my family and hence I dont want to use chemicals. Can any one help me fix this?Cry

Hi!! you  can try ginger, garlic and chilli extract.

you should spray alternative days at least for 3 days.

soak 50gms of garlic in 10 ml of kerosene overnight.  next day, remove the outerskin and make into a paste.

in another vessel, mix 25 grms of green chillies with 50 ml of water. likewise make a paste of

25 grms of ginger.  mix all the 3 paste with 3 litres of water. this mixture should be stirred well and filtered before spraying.

spray as much needed. when stored the effect is less. it should be freshly prepared each time u want to spray.

Thanks a lot for the tip.I have used ginger, garlic green chilly paste with neem oil on weekly basis, but I now understand that its either kerosene or spraying on alternate days(or both) does the trick. Thanks a lot for the info.I shall try this and let you know.Smile

sorry, i forget to mention that i use 4ml to 5ml of vim liquid dishwash.

5ml/litre to the above extract.  it helps the solution/extract to stick the plant  well.

hi!!

if ur place is too wet. more ants are encouraged to come.

places surrounding the plant..shouldnt be too wet.

also u can apply neem manure, around the plant and surrounding area.

the strong aroma of the neem manure discourages ant.

i have noticed ants only when the ground is too wet..

sprinkling fresh neem manure(not old stock) has driven away the ants.
