You can go for Hanna make of pH meters. TDS is good to have too so that you can measure the total salt content.
Nutrient solutions - please check the previous threads in this forum.
Weighing - I would suggest a weighing jewellery scale such as (http://www.ebay.in/itm/DIGITAL.....51a47c56b5) for weighing micro nutrients. For macro nutrients I would suggest a digital kitchen scale such as http://www.ebay.in/itm/Digital.....337e1bf4dc.

Hello Madhavi,
Welcome back!!! It is nice to hear from you after a long time.
You can get pH and EC/TDS meters at Ramkote. Most places that sell scientific and lab equipments have them. While you are there do get the micro nutrients if you plan on making your own nutrient solutions. You will not get them in Hyderguda. You can get the macro nutrients from Hyderguda.
Ebay seems to be having some good deals on pH and EC meters. You can also check with GG (gardenguru.in).
All the best.
Thanks,
Srikanth

hi srikanth
thanks for the welcome, and heads up on where to get things
I am planning on making a trip to ramkote and hyderguda in the next couple weeks, we get chemical supplies for the school so have a shop and transport. if you need anything do let me know.
GG - started using your sol A and B - from sunday onwards - I water with solution one day and plain water one day - as the climate is a little cool - plants are in cocopeat and on the terrace - 10" pot - each has one tomato and chilli - plan to hand water for now
question - I created a 4" PVC tower (4 feet) with many holes- plan to fill with sand, cocopeat or combination closed the ends with a cap that I got from store, can I driect seed spinach and lettuce or should I raise seedlings and then transplant.
thanks

Hi Madhavi,
One of these days I would like to visit your garden. Why do you want to water with plain water on alternate days? If it is absolutely essential then you should probably be reducing your concentration by 1/2 and use NS everyday.
How about posting some pictures?
Regarding Spinach, you can direct sow them. It is not necessary to raise them as seedlings.
Thanks,
Srikanth

hi srikanth
absolutely welcome to my place - actually let me get all the stuff for NS then you can come by and help me mix the first batch.
thanks for that tip - the reason for watering with water is to prevent salt build or so I thought - will follow what you say on doing 1/2 strenght NS.
will do the tower stuff tomorrow - but have to get the NS solution made quickly if i end up adding many plants as GG solution is enough for 100L.
have a good day all gardeners

Came across this deal in eBay:

What's your take on this product? Can you please let me know the use of the Light Meter?

Hi Promod,
It seems to be an interesting product for soil based gardening. For Hydroponics you would be better off with Digital pH meters from the likes of Hanna.
Light meter is used to measure the intensity of light at that moment. As you know most plants need ample sunlight. Using this we can measure the light.
Thanks,
Srikanth
