Hello everyone,
I am Payal from Mumbai, absolute novice in the field of gardening. I am counselor and alternate healing practitioner and I have always wondered how people manage to grow veggies in containers and was looking for some info since last few days on web about the same. That is when I came across GeekGardener and I am glad I did....
GG, i truly thank you for the amount of efforts and time that you have put in to share your experience and knowledge.
I am really motivated to atleast give it a try to container gardening and hoping to succeed. The only thing that might be a problem is space. As I live in rented house in 2BHK apartment and have west and east facing windows with sliding and grills. I can manage to place around 4-5 big plastic container and this is the only place where i can try something so will need guidance on the same from all you experts.
GG I have mailed you through "contact me" link on this site about a few queries and i completely understand that as most of us are professionals, it might be difficult to reply immediately. So i would patiently wait for the response.
Regards,
Payal

Hello nextgeek,
Thank you for welcoming me. As suggested i am posting below my queries. (Hoping to get guidance from you all)
I am sorry if i might sound silly but i really am confused about which sowing season to follow, as in the north or south as i live in mumbai whch falls under central zone of India. (as far as i know)
And also if any one of you can help me to understand the sunlight needed for growing veggies. I have east and west facing windows which has little extended space with grills. I live on 1st floor but get around 3-3.5 hours sunlight on both the sides so in this case Which vegetables can be grown?
Regards,
Payal

Hello,
I have a terace garden and signed up with Purna organics sometime last october to get an understanding and feel of growing vegetables. Proved to be a costly experiment thought. I have been tending to my garden and realise there is so much to learn and adapt to. Also attended a workshop conducted by Dr Vishwanatah and found your site viz FB.
My lettuce plant has seeds. I would like to know how to collect them. This was a good variety also. I see white fluffy seeds and pulled them out but would like to know how harvest them and store them.
Please can you help.

Hello Payal,
Welcome to the forum. I am sorry I couldn't respond to you as well as others on time. Day by day the number of people visiting this website is increasing multifolds but there is only one GG with finite time :). Unfortunately I couldn't get to respond to emails so quickly.
It is always good to post your questions on the forum if you need quick response.
Thanks
GG

I suppose there are many places, but just outside byculla station there are 2 gardening supplies shops close to each other. (namdeo & ratanshi) both have coco peat & vegetable seeds, & other stuff.
they also have 2 nurseries in the adjoining lane in case you want to take a look

Darkstorm

It has a all garden supplies. Not sure about manure. I bought hanging coir baskets for Rs.35 each. A nursery in Andheri quoted Rs.25, but never had any in stock..
Visit their website, it will have all the information you would want. Just google Green growers Bandra.
