It is great to be connected to like minded people, talking about plants, seeds and what is growing in your garden today.
Enjoying the wealth of information that is availble at this web post.

By far the veg have been the most challenging. I also have have a huge terrace space so tying to set up terrace garden for vege's given up for now on the soil.
would be nice if anyone else is from hyd. but distance does not seem to be a barrier for this group.

Hello Saritha,
Welcome to the forums. Madhavi and Raju are a little dormant on the forums these days. I hope they are so busy gardening that they do not have time for posting on the forums :). I am sure there are quite a few gardener from Hyderabad on the forums.
Please let us know what kind of guidance you need. For vegetable gardening see the Sowing Chart.
Gardening Materials here are the sources.
- Manure mixed Red Soil – Most Nurseries (costs around Rs. 70 per 25 KG cement bag.)
- Gardening Tools – Chamundi Enterprises (Ph: 08455240518) Opp. Sangeetha Theater Ramachandra Puram. Hyderguda shops have more variety but this one is much closer to where you live.
- Vermicompost, Neem cake powder, Pongamia, Seethaphal seeds powder etc – Chamundi Enterprises – address and phone see above. Vermicompost costs around Rs. 220 per 40 KG bag or Rs. 80 per 10 KG bag.
- Cocopeat: 5 KG blocks costs around Rs 100 – Rs 120 per block. This yeilds around 75 Liters of volume when hydrated. You can get this only at Hyderguda.
- Neem Oil – You can get this at Hyderguda and also at Chamundi Enterprises. You get small packs of non Hybrid varieties. In case you want Hybrid seeds in small quantities then I suggest you go to Indo American seeds office in Domalguda.
In case you need a quick start for your vegetable garden, you should get ready to transplant seedlings. The only place I am aware of is the nursery in Hyderguda main road next to Bahar Cafe and opp Janata Seeds. I have a few tomato seedlings that I can give away (offer valid until Sunday July 29th as I will be going out of station after that).
Thanks,
Srikanth

Hello All!
My name is Subha and i moved to Hyderabad recently. I am in the Gachibowli area and am looking to start a small veg+herb garden in my balcony. Are there any businesses that come out and help set up a terrace garden here?
Also, any pointers to reading material to get started on my own will be appreciated too.
thanks!

Hi Srikanth,
Thanks for the reply. No, i would like to do it myself. I just want some help to get started. I read somewhere about a venture where folks set up organic terrace gardens for a small fee.. this wil help me get started. Unfortunately, i lost the address for those folks.
regards
subha

You are not too far from where I live. Unfortunately, I will be out of country starting this Sunday for a month. Hence, I cannot help much.
Anyway, I suggest that you read my reply to Saritha (a few posts above this one) in this thread for sourcing of the materials. After you have sourced the material, hire a help for the physical labour and I think you should be all set.
Thanks,
Srikanth

Hi there,
I am new to gardening and new to Hyderabad as well. And I more inclined towards growing basic herbs to start with. Can someone guide me with the following questions. I want to start with growing coriander leaves, fenugreek leaves and chillies. 1. Is cocopeat and vermi compost necessary? I have seen many articles and not all mention using cocopeat for coriander and fenugreek leaves.
2. If yes where can i buy these around Miyapur area? Also I dont know how much qty of cocopeat and vermicompost should be added if you want to grow herbs in a small pot to begin with?
Would be glad if any of you could help me on this
