Hi All,

I am software engineer from Korattur, Chennai.

I have started gardening in my home. My intrest is to have veggies, flower plants.

Today i started my planting the ladies finger and tomato seeds in small pots. Got the seeds from TNAU, anna nagar. 5kg compost from there. In my home we have coconut trees, i have been saving the coconut fibre for long time to use it for gardening.

Can anyone tell me how to use it. I tried by burying few coconut fibres in bottom of the continer and red soil over it. is it right? do i need to remove outer green color fibre from it?

I have spinach seeds also, need to start it this weekend.

Please share your experience regarding the same.

THanks and Regards,

Ashok Kumar P

Welcome, i too started gardening in a very small way 2 days back. Got some seeds from shop opp to Eswar book house in T Nagar and got compost from there itself. However got coco peat from dailydump clone who is located in Haddows road, Nungambakkam. I sowed Methi which i believe is very easy to grow and sowed chilli too. But in small plastic cups for now which i will transplant later. Keeping my fingers crossed to see the first sprout of methi and chilli.

Regarding your question, though  i am a novice i think whar you are doing is correct. i have seen some articles where in western countries they use some kind of water absobing medium at the bottom of the pots which is exactly what you are doing..

I heard that seeds in TNAU is pretty cheap. The seeds in T Nagar shop is anything you take is 10 Rs. and compost is Rs.30. Can we at least be in touch regularly as i am really looking forward to do this seriously and share our experiences among ourselves.

Just a general piece of advise. It is not wise to publish email ids on forums. Bots would gather email ids of public forums and start sending spam. I suggest you communicate email ids through PM.
