I have 3 brinjal plants in containers which had healthy growth until last week when it started flowering and at the same time being attacked by spider mites and mealy bugs. I sprayed the neem oil and soap solution mixture ( 10 ml neem oil + 1 tsp pril liquid soap mixed in a litre of water) and now the leaves are looking brown and burnt and threatening to fall off. The plants get around 3 hours of sunlight in the morning and are in bright shade for the rest of the day in the balcony. Any suggestions please. Will the plants survive?

Hi HappyFeet,
To control spider mites, first keep the infected plants away from the other ones. You can spray a good amount of water under the leaves often. Use rubbing alcohol 1 part of alcolol to 3 parts of water and spray the underside of leaves. This should take care of the mealy bugs as well.
Dont worry you can prune of affected leaves and add good amount of manure. Your brinjal plants will spring back.
Try this and let us know.

Hi pr4d,
As far the first question I would like to know the answer too.
The black stuff in the brinjal plant is it dry and flaky? Once my hibiscus plant had been attacked by some kind of blak funus/mold growth all over the stem along with ants and mealy bugs infestation.
I used a thick paste of turmeric and maida(boiled in littel water and cooled) and applied with a brush all over the stem after removing the black stuff with a kitchen sponge. Black stuff vanished and never came back.
As far the mealy bugs, still its a constant war between the two of us.
Good luck

I think the black stuff that pr4d is talking about is black aphids. Ants bring them along from plant to plant. Very common in leguminous plant.
Rubbing alcohol and water 1:3 ratio is effective on both. Rubbing alcohol is available in most of the medical shops and its called surgical spirit.

My entire jasmine plant is filled with spider mites. What do I do? Should i just prune all of the leaves and vines? The reason I'm asking is becasue they've already started the webbing and its on throughtout the plant and the plant is quite old and hardy. but to cut up all that greenery.........{sigh} 🙁

Mealy bugs are a great menace. They are destroying nearly all my plants. Neem oil+soap gives temporary releif but they re-appear.
My spinach seems to be resistant to mealy bugs. I will try Panchagalvya , vermiwash(planning to get next week) and update.
Neem oil + soap is very good against aphids and mites.

Usually they last pretty long though the best harvest is obtained in the first 3 to 4 months of fruiting. I have had Brinjals that have yielded for over 20 months.
I generally use neem oil as a preventive measure once every 15 days. These days I am also spraying compost tea every alternate weeks.
Thanks,
Srikanth
