Need Help Vegetable garden Chennai

I have a few questions for my garden, let me brief you on the garden.

1. Gets sunlight for about 5 hours

2. Area = 800 sq ft

3. Bore well water slightly high in iron content

I want to maximise the out put of my garden, I need to ensure that I am planting the right vegetables, I do not want to plant veggies that will yield only once and then I have to plant again except of course for coriander, keerais etc. I am growing right now, Ash Gourd, Snake gourd, bitter gourd, Pumpkin, Brinjals, Okra.

What are the other vegetables that can grow in Chennai, easily with little care.

What should be the vegetables that I should concentrate on?

My advice would be to start in a small way and as you go you can build your garden gradually. Even I use borewell water (though, I'm not sure about its iron content). The plants are doing fine.

Brinjal and Okra should do well in our climes. Keep a bunch of plants, so you can get a steady harvest. Apart from that, I'm growing mint, methi, potatoes (planted market bought potatoes after chitting them) and tomatoes. Tomatoes would do well when the temperature is not too harsh.

All the best.

Thanks - what is chitting?

Where can I get tomato seeds?

Chitting is to allow store bought potatoes to sprout. You can search for the word chitting and you would get a fair idea of what I'm talking about.

Tomato seeds would be available in all nurseries or seed stores. There are a few seed stores in Natesan Street, T.Nagar and their working hours are 10am to 6pm and I don't think they are open on Sundays.
