Hi,
I have two plants which are almost 5-6 ft in containers. They are almost 1-1/2 year old and this year I have got the first drumstick growing and yet to harvest. There are lot of flowers and many other small drumsticks that appear but due to winds they all drop off. We used to regularly harvest the leaves for cooking. I don't know where the seeds are available in bangalore, you can check in lalbagh.

Hi all,
I have 2 trees of 8ft and 12 feet in 20L containers. Harvested about 8 sticks so far. With proper pruning and care it will yield more also. I will post couple of pic soon.
Sri, Were those raised from seeds? . I have lost so many due to extreme winds on my 6th floor and this tree is taller to my greenhouse so..
I have the seeds of those.
Thanks
GG

hi. i bought pkm-2( its a annual one that is life time is 3years) hybrid drum stick seeds in last nov from lalbagh.
it germinated with in 10 days. after a month, i transplanted it in 18inc by 18 inch container.
the drumstick tree is now 7 feet tall. it started flowering in march. till now i harvested 22 drumsticks. the drumsticks are quite long. each weigh about 160 grams. there are many more drumsticks coming up, i have to ratoon the plant in oct for yield in next season,
i fertilized the plant with compost/vermicompost / ground cake every fortnight.
note: many flowers in drum stick plant indicate poor yield.
if there is more flower clustering yield is low. an individual inflorescence carries 19-126 flowers. average being 53.
normally 3-5 fruits/ inflorescence are obtained.

Excellent.
The drumstick plant I have in my garden yielded about 12 so far. My biggest problem is my terrace is in sixth floor and sometimes I get extreme winds that blow all the flowers away.
You should see the plant shaking like its possessed during extreme winds.
Great work

Hi i am yet to try drumsticks in bangalore - but my exp in terace gardens and in drumsticks is that the stem regeneration technique- ones raised from stems is much better and stronger- it ensures the parental triats and productivity is ensured - wind s a concern for higher windy balconies and hence avoidable - you need a minimum 10 inch x 10 inch width and a 25 ltr capacity container- can use an old bucket if u can spare with a few holes pocked using a hot iron rod at the bottom - that will wrk out cheaper - back home we old car tyres for terrache garden - my cousin even got pappayas -gauva , mango varieties and also tried a coconut tree , that flopped though on terrcae
