I'm a newbie terrace gardener and trying my hand at growing vegetables in pots.  I'm recently seeing some white powdery insect behind the leaves.

What is this?  Is this harmful?  How can I remove this organically?  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi venkysrini, I had this in my Okra too.I google searched and they looked like mealy bugs.I had to wipe the undersurface of each leaf with an 1:1 solution of alcohol and water. It disappeared altogether but reappeared in matter of days but in smaller numbers.I repeated the procedure and they came back as small scattered colonies-sometimes seen as concentric white circles, sometimes as cottony clumps and sometimes I could find white flies too.But hands down, they are very much manageable and I haven't seen any in the past few weeks. Cool.I had set up yellow oily traps around Okra plants and before the rains I could find white flies getting trapped on it too!!Hope these help!
