Guys we all are aware of the plastic menace.  Its threat is not only from landfilling but its constituents polluting the air, water n soil too be it at its making, transporting, using, disposing, recycling, etc.  It has caused death/danger to so many animals, marine life, birds and other species of life by consumption or entangling.  Landfilling is of course a major major threat.  We wud have to live on plastic layer in coming few years if we go on with this use-and-throw culture of plastic.  Landfilling of plastic means, no plant, no organic process, basically no life that happens in soil naturally.  Also, plastic blocks the rain water seeping into underground, result? Already depleted underground water table!!! guess what in future. Please please pledge for NO PLASTIC.

Of course you have alternatives to plastic, how about buying and keeping a bunch of jute bags that are available in market for as cheap as 2 rs per bag depending on size and quality. You can wash it, re-use it for several months at least.  Please carry your own carry bags to shopping, just say NO when shop-keeper happily pulls out a plastic for you.  Keep couple of them in your vehicle/hand bag for unexpected shopping.  Do avoid packed food items, provisions, veggies n fruits when u can buy ones that come unpacked, they are more natural and fresh too.  Packed means old!!!.  Stop assuming that only ones that come in plastic packs are of good quality.  Stop being plastic-fancy!!!.  These days you are getting banana fiber bags, plz check out there are several other eco-friendly natural fiber bags available in market.

Why do you want canned drinking water??? How can you say you are getting safe drinking water in cans and bottles.  How about fixing a good water purifier at home n carrying water on your own.  Before this plastic mania, dint we live with minimum plastic just decades ago, just recall. Dint we carry our own bags to markets n shopping? I do carry a carry box to buy a meat or food parcel!!! People get amused by this, but I dont care nor do I become conscious, I know what I am doing is not funny.  Now, dont start using paper bags, paper means cutting of trees!!!!

Its use is just minutes and troubles for 1000s of years!!!!!!  Do we really need this lasting lethal in our daily life???  Please be reasonable towards your environment, think and act.  Do you want to live a hell to your future generation and let them face the consequences of what we are doing today?

Other eco-friendly measures are, dont litter, seggregate waste, go for rainwater harvesting, you can not just save money on your water bills, but you can lessen the water that runs to streets n drains causing havoc during mansoon. You can get more info/help from rain water harvesting theme park in jaynagar 5th block. Use solar energy, dont waste fuel or power, start using public transports as much as possible to reduce pollution/save ur money and energy.

Thank you! Hope you people consider my points.

I'm interested to know an alternate solution for container gardening from the original poster considering this is a Gardening forum.
