Hi everyone,

I am new to gardening and thinking of starting a container gardening. I am also new to bangalore so dont know where to buy and what to buy.

My questions:

1.As a first time gardener, what vegetables can i try which needs less maintenance and space?

(from this blog, i found out mint and coriander. what else can i try)

2.Can i use plastic containers for veggies?or bags?

3. What are the alternatives to sand and where to buy in bangalore?

4.Should i add fertilizer for all type of plants? what should i buy, where and how to use it?

I tried to attend a terrace gardening workshop but i couldnt as i dont even know the places yet. I live in whitefield. If anyone knows about a workshop near this area, please let me know.

Also, I am planning to visit lalbagh this week. Will i get everything i need for container gardening there?

I know i am asking too much, but whoever has time, please help me. Embarassed

Thankyou

kavitha

If one searches on the net, top 10 easiest veggies to grow have radish on the top. Others being spinach, lettuce, carrots, beans, tomatoes. I am experimenting with okra, bitter-gourd, keerai and yes... spring onions as well. Seeds should be available at the state agri dept office - work days. Else search on justdial, yellowpages of your city. I found on justdial seed vendors and could get them. I called a few of them and got the seeds I needed, here in Chennai. Pots - you will have to find out by going around on weekends. Shivaji nagar area?? KR Market? Here in Chennai we get bags of soil from Nursery for 60 piece a gunny bag. I have seen big paint plastic cans used as well for growing plants. All the best.

I recommend spinach initially. For growing this, get sipnach from your vegetable shop and plant the ones which have thick stems. This will give you quick results.
