Hello,

I have a set of 3 Impatiens Wallerana plants- aka Lizzy Bizzy- all of which have experienced shrivelled and drying up of leaves and buds.

-they are planted in 5 inch deep and 6 inch wide (at the top) plastic flowerpots

-receive about 3-4 hours of morning sun. Rest of the day in shade but the area stays warm due to being on the terrace

- no noticeable pests

Impatiens leaves

Am trying to upload pics but am not having any success. Looking forward to aid and advise.

Thanks

Impatiens generally do not like direct sunlight. Tend to do better in filtered light.

Somehow on photos, the back of the leaves seem white. Are you having a white fly infestation?

Dear Terraceroses,

Thankyou for your suggestion. I had a closer look at the leaves of my plants after you mentioned white flys.

- I havent seen any adult whiteflies around the plants.

- I noticed some translucent white drops- seem like eggs to me. They are sticking to the edges of the leaf-mostly on the underside.

- Also the parts of the stem/branches that had significant leaf-fall has become soft, as opposed to being sturdy. I read that whitefly feeding reduces the turgidity in the plant

-About the back of the leaves appearing white- they are a few shades lighter than the green upperside, but dont look white to me. Alternatively a few of the leaves have some white patches on the upperside.

-Also there seems to be significant curling of the leaves- almost all the leaves are curled inside.

I also sprayed a pesticide called 'Rogorin' which has Dimethoate 30%E.C. on the plants about a month back. But the flowering has not improved after that.

Pics of leaves: impatiens 5,6,7 can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/1.....?saved=1

Looking forward to further advice.
