I had written about basal canes and how to make your rose plants produce more basal canes. Basal canes are different from suckers that start below the graft/bud joint. Just to make things clear here is a picture of a basal cane that I took .

Look at the vigor with which its growing. Usually Basal canes have lots of flowers in them.
